This year is the 15th anniversary of Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, an established pediatric dental nonprofit experiencing rapid growth. In 2017, we were named one of Orange County’s Best Workplaces by the Orange County Register.

We provide crucial dental services for kids in our Smile Center in Garden Grove and Smile Clinic at CHOC Children’s Hospital, through our school-based prevention programs, and at outreach events in the community. Our partnership with the University of Southern California allows us to train future dentists at our facilities as a CODA approved training site for residents of the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. Each year we touch the lives of approximately 100,000 kids and parents—providing much needed education on dental health and nutrition, screenings and restorative treatment, and even offering treatment under sedation for severe cases and for children with special needs. Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Offer, the Human Resources Manager/Director is responsible for a wide variety of complex, confidential and routine administrative services related to the day-to-day, Human Resources function.

The responsibilities and duties of this position also include the following: drafts new policies and procedures, recommends, and edits current organizational policies based on legal changes and management/senior staff feedback, communicates and interprets policies and procedures to managers and employees, participates as the project leader for select HR initiatives, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

The Human Resources Manager/Director must be able to effectively relate to staff, parents and employees of all social, economic, ethnic and educational backgrounds. The Human Resources Manager/Director must be able to work under minimum supervision and must be able to demonstrate solid decision-making abilities as well as possessing effective time management skills and have a sense of fiscal accountability. The Human Resources Manager/Director is responsible for implementing the philosophies, policies and procedures of Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County as they pertain to the job description.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities required:

  • Five years HR generalist experience in employee relations, recruitment, HRIS, benefits administration and training.
  • A high level of professionalism and confidentiality maintenance is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong customer service skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, investigative and creative aptitude to analyze issues and make recommendations.
  • The HR Manager/Director must be free to travel as the position demands.
  • Additional skills include: ability to multi-task, analytical thinking, problem solving, detail oriented, strong organization and planning skills, shows initiative and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills, must be able to disseminate information clearly/concisely.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of management and front line staff and have the ability to work with diverse cultural staff.
  • Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
  • Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations.

Information Management:

  • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, & Excel required; skills in Power Point, HRIS and payroll software preferred.
  • Maintains employee confidentiality.

Risk Management:

Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required
  • Healthcare and nonprofit experience preferred
  • Five (5) years HR generalist experience required

Licensure and Credentials:

PHR/SPHR Preferred

Independent Action:

Under the general guidance of the Chief Executive Officer, regular duties performed require independent judgment. S/he will consult with supervisor regarding major policy decisions, major expenditures, major personnel related issues, to include hiring and terminations and unusual problems.
